Dominating In The Classroom!

Everyone loves a repeat champion! That's what the Warriors did in the classroom. Back-to-back academic champions! For the second year in a row the Warriors posted one of the highest GPAs in the nation to earn the NSCAA Team Academic Award. How high was that GPA? Would you believe the team averaged a 3.4? None of the other 10 teams in the CCAA (our conference) received the award and only 4 teams in the entire West Region had high enough GPAs to earn the award. Check out more about the award...

Hello from Humboldt

It doesn't get much further north than Eureka, California but here we are. After our game against Sonoma State on Friday we continued the trip up north. Our driver Cameron, voted best driver in the world by the Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer team, did a great job of getting us up here in some stormy conditions. After a good night's sleep we had a full day today. Team breakfast, light practice at Humboldt State, a trip to the Pacific ocean, team dinner, and a team meeting featuring giant Post It Notes. If you are wondering what is going on in the picture featuring Marti, Casey (men's assistant coach), Cameron, and Bre, they all decided to dress up on Friday before and after our game. Crazy assistant coaches! Tomorrow is our final game for 2008. Check back on the blog for more from our weekend. GO WARRIORS!

Senior Day Surprise!

It is hard to keep a secret on our team but I think the coaches actually pulled it off. Today we surprised our seniors with a framed jersey. We used their black uniforms because that's the uniform we use on special occasions. What is more special than Senior Day? Nothing! Caitie Van Wormer (aka v-dub) and her family are pictured. Check back Monday for a slide show from senior day.

What A Senior Day!

It was truly a special day today for the Warrior family. Not only did we pick up a win against Cal State Monterey Bay but we also celebrated Senior Day. The juniors, sophomores and freshmen did a great job making it a special day for their seniors. There were a few tears of course because we love our seniors. They have been a very special group and have contributed a lot to our team, university and the Turlock community.

Look at our celebrities!

The first 150 fans to arrive at today's game against Cal State Dominguez Hills received a free "Building Champions" women's soccer poster. After the game our local celebrities (the players) signed autographs for many of their fans. We are all out of posters but next week on Sunday the first 150 fans to the women's soccer game receive free t-shirts thanks to Pro Soccer of Modesto. Come on out and support the Warriors on senior day!

BBQ and Family!

We were very lucky today to get some great BBQ after our game. Bri McClain's mom and dad were nice enough to come to town with their BBQ. Mr. McClain grilled hamburgers, sausages, chicken, and baked beans. He treated the team to this great BBQ right at the field after the match against Cal State Dominguez Hills. A special thank you goes out to Bri and her family!

Game Time!

The Warriors gave new meaning to the phrase "game day" today. The usually recovery practice was adjusted a little to include about 90 minutes of Wii, Playstation, Nintendo, Pool, Ping Pong, and pizza. The team took timeout today from soccer and school to just hang out and play. We have a great on-campus game room which we used today. There were some outstanding rock bands! In addition, assistant coach Bre Vaughan and goalkeeper Millie Brown were DOMINATED by Julie Geller and Gabe at Ping Pong. Sometimes we just need a little mental break. The Warriors take on Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. at the Turlock Sports Complex. It is Free Poster Day. The first 150 fans get a free team poster. GO WARRIORS!

Open Open Open!

The long anticipated opening of our new bookstore finally happened on Monday! We are all very excited. It looks great! We were also all suprised to see women's soccer player Bri McClain and former player Cherie Early featured in the bookstore. Check out the pictures! They are on the right hand side of a large mural featuring Warrior athletes in the Warrior Store section of the bookstore. The new bookstore replaces the old store in the student union. Rumor has it that might become a pub.

It's Here!

What do the LA Galaxy, Raiders, Stanford, 7 Super Bowls, and Cal State Stanislaus women's soccer all have in common? Answer: The same playing field. Starting this morning at 7:00 a.m. massive trucks carrying the best grass in the world started arriving here on campus. West Coast Turf, the best sod company in the United States, started installing the practice soccer field today. West Coast Turf specializes in professional and college sports fields. We are extremely lucky to have them doing both our practice field and our game field. We will update the blog throughout the week so you can see the practice field being built.

That's How We Room!

I think we can all agree that the Hilton in Montebello, official host of the Cal State Stanislaus men's and women's soccer teams, rocks! How about flat screen TVs in all the rooms? If you want a better look check out some video from Tiffani and Kim's room.

Dinner and Cake!

Sometimes when we have doubleheaders we travel with the men's soccer team. This weekend is one of those times. Tonight we got to celebrate Sergio's birthday with the men's team after our wonderful team dinner at the hotel. Dinner was baked Ziti (pasta), delicious bread, and salad. That was followed by an amazing version of happy birthday sung by both the men's and women's soccer team and of course birthday cake! Check out more pictures on the right side of the blog!

Trip to SoCal

We had a pretty easy trip down to SoCal today. We left Stanislaus at about 8:00 a.m. After a brief stop for lunch just before the Grapevine we got to LA in the early afternoon. There was time to check into the hotel before leaving for Cal State LA to practice at their field. A light 45 minute practice of possession, crossing & finishing and we were on our way back to the hotel for dinner.

BEAT L.A.!

In about 30 minutes the Warriors men's and women's soccer teams leave for a road trip to Cal State Los Angeles. The Warriors will travel down today, practice this afternoon in LA, and then play Cal State LA on Sunday. We will have lots of pictures and a slide show from our trip to Los Angeles to check back on the blog. GO WARRIORS!
