Warriors And Soccer Without Borders Both Win!

Saturday was a great day for the Warriors as our game and fundraising effort for Soccer Without Borders got off to a great start. Off the field we collected cleats, soccer balls, shin guards, cones, and even a portable goal all for SWB! These items are actually going to accompany SWB volunteer Ben Gucciardi to Uganda when he leaves on May 7th.
On the field we also did very well beating Dominican University 4-0. The game got off to a great start in the 12th minute when Jade hit a long ball off the far post. It bounced out to the top of the box where Tiffani pounced on it and blasted it into the back of the net. Eight minutes later Lisa followed a great shot from Adrienne and got the rebound after the Dominican goalkeeper made a great save to give the Warriors a 2-0 advantage. In the 36th minute Jade hit a great corner kick. After a scramble in front of the net Mel poked it in for a 3-0 half-time lead. In the second half Maryanne added a goal on a great cross from Bri McClain. Jessica and Sabel combined for the shutout in the goal!

Don't forget Saturday is our Alumni Game. It kicks off at 12:00 p.m. We will be collected for SWB again on that day. The game will be at the Turlock Sports Complex.

We Need Your Help!

On Saturday we will be hosting a charity event for Soccer Without Borders. SWB is a great organization that helps youth both locally and internationally through soccer. They need soccer equipment new and used like soccer balls, cleats, scrimmage vests, cones, and uniforms. On Saturday we are playing Dominican University at 1:00 p.m. at the Turlock Sports Complex. Admissions is free! However, we are asking everyone to bring items to donate to SWB. Please help us help this great organization. If you would like more information about SWB click here. If you can't make it Saturday we will also be doing the same thing on May 3rd at our Warrior Women's Soccer Alumni Game which will be at 12:00 p.m. at the Sports Complex.

An Athletic Appetite

We will be starting a new feature this week called An Athletic Appetite. Team food expert Caitie Van Wormer will be reviewing the best places to eat in Turlock and there are lots of them! Enjoy!

The #1 place to eat this week is PANERA. They have a variety of food that is not only reasonably priced but they also have something delicious for any time of the day, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Not to mention, the food is also quite healthy. I recommend the “pick any two” option with broccoli cheddar soup and your choice of a salad, sandwich, or a hot painini.

Coming in at our #2 spot is the TACO BUS. If you are in the mood for some authentic Mexican food this is the place to go. They have great menu and the prices are relatively cheap, the food is similar to the Taco Truck’s just not as spicy. I recommend the quesadilla supreme with carne asada or the tacos and of course your choice of drink.

Last but certainly not least at #3 is CHINA CAFÉ. They have a large selection of some great Chinese classics. The prices are considerably cheap especially for the amount of food that they give you (large portions). I would recommend the orange chicken, broccoli beef, with chicken chow mein and pork fried rice, or the walnut shrimp special is also quite delicious.

Places to look out for(coming soon to TUR of the LOCK): Cool Hand Luke’s, Sushi Garden 2, and Chipotle

Spring Break Rewind: Mel & Jade In New York

After lots and lots of asking Jade finally came through today with pictures and details of her trip to New York City with Mel. It sounds like an amazing Spring Break adventure. Here are some of the detail according to Jade:

So while in New York we stayed at my sister Jean's house in Brooklyn. We ran over the Brooklyn Bridge into the city on our first day there. We went and saw all the sights. The first day we saw the Empire State Building, Grand Central Station, and just walked around. On another day we went on this tour called the Circle Line Tour which takes you around the entire island of Manhattan. You get to see the Statue of Liberty, Yankee Stadium, and just an amazing view of the city. We walked Central Park and went to the Guggenheim Museum. One night we went out with one of my sister's friends Laci and by the end of the night we went to Times Square a like 3:30 a.m. which was crazy because there was nobody there. See the picture of us and the cop in Time Square (notice Mel hanging on very tight to the cop).

Warriors Enjoy Post-Game Polish Dinner

Thanks to the family of Jessica Sitarz the Warriors were able to enjoy a home cooked Polish dinner on Saturday after the match against San Jose State. It was amazing! We had Golabki (stuffed cabbage) and Pierogi. There were three types of Pierogi (mushroom, cheese, and cabbage). Check out all of the great art in the background of the picture. Jessica's father is very talented! Thank you Sitarz family!

Warriors Battle San Jose State

It was a thrilling game there is no question about that but in the end the Warriors came up just short in a 4-3 loss to San Jose State on Saturday. The Warriors struck first when Adrienne Sorenson ran onto a 60 yard long ball from Melissa Phillips. Adrienne beat a defender and slipped the ball past the Spartan goalkeeper to give the Warriors a 1-0 advantage in the 11th minute. The Spartans tied the match in the 30th minute and took a 2-1 advantage in the 35th minute of the match. However, Adrienne struck again this time on a pass from Maryanne Sayles. Adrienne made a fantastic run to beat the back line and once again tucked the ball past the San Jose State goalkeeper. The Spartans took a 3-2 lead in the 67th minute and it looked like the Warriors had tied it in the 75th minute on a goal from Bri McClain. However, Bri's goal was called back for some mysterious reason. Five minutes later the Spartans made it 4-2. The Warriors battled back and scored again in the 85th minute when Lisa Garcia hit a terrific corner kick to the back post and Jade Adamson volleyed it into the net. The Warriors had a number of other opportunities to tie the game before the final whistle but couldn't convert.

Road Trip Rewind!

Yes there was plenty of soccer played this past weekend. But lets start by talking about the really important part of this weekend's road trip -- THE FOOD! After our game against Fresno State (a 1-0 loss) we headed over to Tiffani Moore's house for a BBQ. It was amazing! Tri-tip, BBQ chicken, baked beans, rice, rolls, iced tea, and mini-muffin brownies. Have you ever noticed how food in "mini" form is always amazing? At some point we will have pictures of this great BBQ but for now we just want to thank Tiffani's great family for hosting us.
The games against Fresno State and University of Pacific were very hard fought and a terrific opportunity to play against some outstanding competition. They were also both a homecoming of sorts for some of our players. In Fresno in addition to Tiffani's family we also saw Jessica Cordova's family (she is from Buchanon High School) and Alena's host family who is from Lemoore. Alena is from Sweden but when she was attending junior college at West Hills she stayed with a host family.

When we went to Stockton to play UOP it is safe to say half the fans in the stands were friends and family of Vanessa Cervantes. Vanessa, a freshman, played in her first two college games this weekend starting a center back. She was amazing! It was her first real games in TWO YEARS! She spent the last two years recovering from two ACL injuries. She played the entire 90 minutes against UOP.

Now we are getting ready for a trip to the Bay Area to play San Jose State on Saturday. There is also a rumor we will be eating at the home of Jessica Sitarz. We will keep you posted. In the meantime check out our pictures from this weekend.

Here Come The Warriors!

We just finished up our week of practice getting ready for our games at Fresno State and at the University of Pacific this weekend. Below is the schedule for the weekend. Come out and cheer on your Warriors!

Saturday April 5 @ Fresno State, 12:30 p.m.
Sunday April 6 @ University of Pacific (Stockton), 3:30 p.m.

Go Warriors!

Spring Is In The Air!

You can always tell it is spring time on campus because two things happen: (1) flowers start to pop up everywhere, and (2) baby ducks are all over campus! Here are the latest additions to the Warrior family.

Women's Soccer Hosts All-Sports Camp

Over Spring Break we hosted an All-Sports camp along with men's basketball and men's soccer. Our campers had a great time playing soccer, basketball, futsal, frisbee golf, tug-of-war, capture the flag, volleyball, flag football and many more games and sports. Great job Bri & Alena for making it a fun week for the kids!
